I spent 5 years working in downtown Neenah, so I've been to plenty of restaurants in Menasha, Neenah, and the Appleton area. And I was there when I would say the revitalization of Mensha's downtown

Annual Update - 2025
Badger State Brewing; where to begin about a great local brewery?!?! The location is amazing, the beer spectacular, and they have a great event space if you are looking to host a gathering.

Honestly I think my Original Post did a good job describing Badger State and all they have to offer, but as I am working through an updated note on all of my locations I had to include something about Badger State. To me, the beer is very good and I love that they stick to what they know, beer, and they haven't incorporated a restaurant. They are good with food being brought in and they stick to beer, which is great. Some nights I'll randomly find myself here with friends playing games or cards and just simply hanging out and having a good ole' time. The atmosphere is a great spot for a hangout with friends, thus why I've titled this blog the way I have!!
Original Post - October 2023
Unlike some of my other posts about a brewery and why I like them, this one will be a bit different, but I can promise you; not in a bad way!
We live in Wisconsin and we all know what the nickname is, well maybe you don't if you're from out of state or slept through the class that went through state nicknames. We are the Badger State, aptly named for the state animal and also the nickname of that wonderful school just a bit Southwest of us here in Brown County. I'll be honest I've never confirmed this but I'm pretty positive this is why the founders named their brewery, Badger State Brewing.

Unlike the other breweries on this list, this facility hosts a large indoor space for events, because after all what Wisconsin resident doesn't want to have their wedding reception at a brewery (quite logical in my opinion). Not that you can't host a wedding reception at some of the other venues on my Brewery & Winery list, but this is the largest indoor space technically. The venue boasts a private bar area for your reception (I guess I'll start saying "event" because I've been to events other than weddings here) and there is also an outdoor patio area perfect for getting some sun & fresh air. But let's be honest this is a food & beverage blog so I need to talk about those.
Badger State is a brewery without a kitchen, so if you want to eat you're going to have to order in, which is allowed and welcomed. Well I guess the food portion of the blog is done!
Let's talk about beer shall we?

Badger State boasts a history of brewing beer with over 60 different beers created, and I've got to be honest I have not tried them all. I'm personally a fan of the On Wisconsin as I love a good amber beer, but there are numerous others on the menu that, depending on the day, just hit right. I'm not going to pretend that I'm a beer coniseur by any means, I know what I like and what I don't like, just like each of you reading this. But what I do know is a good environment and place to make memories with family & friends.
It's not just the proximity to Lambeau Field that make Badger State Brewery appealing, but it is a reason since you can have a beer (or three) as part of your tailgate before a game.

No, it's the welcoming staff that are always there with a smile on their face to provide you with your next pint. The main bar area has multiple TVs that always have games on, but it's not a typical sports bar. No Badger State feels more like going to your buddies man cave than it does sitting in a bar. When you sit down at Badger State you are going to feel comfortable and welcomed, so much so you will probably catch fans of visiting teams here. It's always fun to enjoy some banter with rivals, and because we live in Green Bay you know it's going to be friendly banter.
What do you think of Badger State and where does it rank for you on the list of Brown County beverage establishments? Have you tried all the beers they've created, and if so, which is your favorite?
